ABSTRACT

Along with most economic sectors, the COVID-19 crisis has had a strong impact on start-up accelerators, forcing them to seek urgent and imaginative solutions to quickly adapt to a new environment. The enforced change brought challenges that have been exacerbated by the sudden slowdown in economic activity. Despite these difficulties, it has become clear that the accelerated digital transformation that emerged through a needs-must approach to engage with start-ups through remote means has also presented new opportunities for accelerators to improve their programmes. This article analyses the impact of the COVID crisis on the organisation and results obtained by a European accelerator, which delivers programmes for growth stage technology start-ups. For this purpose, two very similar programmes have been analysed and compared: one focused on industrial technologies (delivered in 2019–2020) and another one focused on products and services built on space technologies (2020–2021). The research has been undertaken using observational techniques, reinforced through the collection of primary and secondary data throughout the study duration. The result of the analysis point to a possible post-COVID accelerator model that blends online and remote delivery as a new way of improving the experience of start-ups and optimising the use of scarce resources. © 2023 by the authors.

ABSTRACT

"""Nipahol"" is high-grade bioethanol produced from nipa sap using the proprietary fermentation and distillation technologies developed by a group of researchers at the Mariano Marcos State University-National Bioenergy Research and Innovation Center (MMSU-NBERIC). To ensure the quality and efficacy of the formulated product, the present study was set to explore the antibacterial potential of the locally formulated nipa disinfectant/antiseptic as an alternative alcohol formulation for possible use during the COVID-19 pandemic using standard microbiological assays. Susceptibility test revealed that at least 70% nipa alcohol formulations showed inhibitory activity against Staphylococcus aureus (6.25 mm and 4.25 mm zone of inhibitions). The 95% nipa alcohol concentration showed a bactericidal effect against Escherichia coli and S. aureus. High percent (%) bacterial cell reduction (90-99.9% log reduction) was observed when alcohol concentration and time increases. A confirmatory antimicrobial susceptibility test conducted by Philippine Department of Science and Technology, Microbiology Division reported that 95% nipa alcohol showed active inhibitory effect to test organisms while partial active observed in 70% nipa alcohol formulation. Glo-Germ Test revealed nipa disinfectant/antiseptic is as effective as commercial alcohol, thus, it can be utilized as an alternative intervention to prevent the spread of infectious microorganisms. The effectiveness of nipa disinfectant/antiseptic formulations is heightened with proper handwashing, strictly following proper hygiene, and health protocols. In conclusion, the formulated nipahol possesses the antibacterial potential to inhibit the multiplication of E. coli and S. aureus."

ABSTRACT

COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) is a negative phenomenon that has become a difficult scenario at the different educational levels. Before this negative element, gamification is a pedagogical proposal for the students of the Ancon Educational Unit, as a strategy of motivation in learning. The objective of the research is to create a set of gamified activities that help to enhance motivation in students, the research approach applied in this study is a qualitative methodology, a group of 60 young people participated, and the results were measured through phases and stages employing a game quiz in Gianelly. The search for information was carried out through Google Scholar, articles in indexed journals, books and newspapers, to find out the main role that gamification and gaming have played in times of pandemic, and the positive impact it has had. The benefits of gamification have become very interesting because it facilitates a new model of teaching and learning, also gamification allows students to study new content through the gaming environment, discover new information and earn points, badges or any bonus.

ABSTRACT

Tourism is one of the sectors most affected by the health emergency caused by the covid-19 pandemic, therefore its reactivation is an urgent task. In this context, it is relevant to know about the local demand regarding the biosecurity protocols applied during the pandemic. The purpose of this study is to analyze the perception of the potential client towards biosecurity protocols in lodging and catering establishments during the pandemic. A quantitative approach was used with non-probabilistic convenience sampling, applying an online survey to 164 potential customers. A non-parametric chi-square hypothesis test was also performed, showing that the use of biosafety protocols affects the intention to visit and purchase the mentioned services. Additionally, the perception of the application of favorable biosafety protocols versus covid-19 was identified, and that the level of education, comfort and communication about biosafety protocols affect the intention to visit and purchase the services. In conclusion, the adequate application and communication of these protocols will contribute to the economic reactivation of tourist destinations.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of the work is to analyze the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the economy of the Colombian State, with theoretical basis of supply and demand, as well as public policies (monetary and fiscal). The methodology applied is a qualitative paradigm, where a documentary and reference analysis is made, in order to address the current issue of the country's economy in the light of the pandemic crisis. Among the results the conclusion is that the State of Colombia, has reduced consumption and production by the inhabitants, increasing unemployment. © 2020, Universidad del Zulia.
